Obama Seeks More Education Funds in FY13 Budget

President Obama hopes to increase education spending 2.5 percent for fiscal year 2013, to $69.8 billion up from the current budget of $68.1 billion.  Of particular relevance to science, technology, engineering, and math, he is looking for $8 million to fund a new initiative to train teachers in STEM programs.  The program would enable students to earn teaching and STEM degrees simultaneously, feeding the qualified STEM teacher pipeline.
